    La Tuna fire swells, threatens homes; 210 Freeway remains closed
    A fast-moving wildfire burning in the Verdugo Mountains near Sunland-Tujunga threatened homes, stranded motorists and forced a complete closure of the 210 Freeway Friday as firefighters worked to get a handle on the blaze late into the night.
    The La Tuna fire was reported just before 1:30 p.m. near the 10800 block of La Tuna Canyon Road south of the freeway.
    High winds sent embers from the original blaze north across the 210, sparking another fire, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokes

    COSTA MESA — A man ended up in the hospital Friday night, after suffering serious injuries when another man — believed to be an acquaintance — stabbed him at a pool hall, police said.
    Around 7:20 p.m., Friday, Sept. 1, an unidentified man was stabbed at Games Plus Billiards in the 500 block of 19th Street in Costa Mesa, and taken to a local hospital, said Sgt. Mike Manson.

  • US Bank robbed in Aliso Viejo grocery store, no one injured, police say

    ALISO VIEJO — An unknown amount of cash was stolen from a bank inside a grocery store Friday night, police said.
    Around 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 1, a man approached a teller at the U.S. Bank inside a Ralphs in the 26000 block of Aliso Creek Road and used a note to demand cash, said Lt. John Roche of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. Though the note said the man had a gun, no weapon was seen during the robbery.
