  PHILADELPHIA – The Phillies celebrated mudders’ day in Philadelphia Sunday.
  On a cold and dreary afternoon, the Dodgers fell behind 6-2 in the third inning, came back on the strength of a five-RBI day from Teoscar Hernandez to take a late lead but their bullpen couldn’t hold it, losing to the Phillies, 8-7.
  The Phillies took two of three in the soldout weekend series, handing the Dodgers their first two losses of the season, both in one-run games.

  A 38-year-old man was rescued on Saturday after plunging 20 feet off a cliff, Laguna Beach lifeguards said.
  The man did not sustain life-threatening injuries, the lifeguards said on Instagram.

  An Anaheim police officer fired at, but did not hit, a man who threatened him with a gun on Saturday night, April 12. Officers later found a man who had been injured in a separate shooting, police said.

  HOUSTON — Nolan Schanuel spent his winter trying to improve his bat speed, and so far it’s worked.
  The Angels first baseman has increased his average bat speed from 65.2 mph to 68.2 mph, making him one of just three everyday players in the big leagues to have an increase of at least 3 mph.
