Driver arrested on suspicion of plowing into 75 sheriff’s cadets near Whittier
A 22-year-old Diamond Bar driver has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on a peace officer for plowing into 75 cadets out for a training run in South Whittier on Wednesday morning, authorities said on Thursday, Nov. 17.
The Sheriff’s Department said Nicholas Joseph Gutierrez was arrested at 3:15 p.m. the day of the collision and added in its Thursday statement that more charges could be added.
Gutierrez, authorities had said, was behind the wheel of a SUV and on his way to work

Once again, California beats every other state when it comes to poverty
Gov. Gavin Newsom is fond of comparing California’s economy to those of other states, particularly arch-rivals Texas and Florida, and even other nations.
Unsurprisingly, however, there was no braggadocio from the governor’s office Tuesday when California found itself in a No. 1 economic position — having, once again, the nation’s highest level of poverty.
Actually, California’s official poverty number, as calculated by the Census Bureaufor the 2021-23 window, was no

Homes destroyed near Lake Elsinore as massive Airport fire continues to burn
No growth was reported in the Airport fire overnight, but the fire appeared to have destroyed homes in Riverside County and continued to burn with no containment, according to authorities and news reports.
The blaze hopped Ortega Highway and raced into Riverside County Tuesday, Sept. 10, as flames continued to push eastbound toward Lake Elsinore, causing road closures around the main thoroughfare as more than 600 firefighters continued battling the blaze, aided by helicopters and air tankers.

Sept. 11 attacks changed our nation forever
Today marks the 23rd anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks that shook the nation and changed the world. Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives that day in New York City, Arlington County, Virginia and Stonycreek Township, Pennsylvania. All of us who were alive that day no doubt remember the intense national unity Americans felt for a brief period of time.
This period of national unity, through the lens of nostalgia, is no doubt something many look back fondly on compared to the incessant b

Lt. Col. Lindsay Mathwick vividly remembers the moment she was given responsibility for more than 600 Camp Pendleton Marines and sailors aboard the USS Somerset for a seven-month deployment, for which she and her crew would be solo the first three months in the vast Indo-Pacific.
It was November, and she, her sergeant major and the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit commander were aboard the Somerset,  named in honor of those who died when Flight 93 crashed in Somerset County on Sept. 11, 2001

Frumpy Mom: Who left the heater on?
I have to confess that I never had the slightest desire to move to the North Pole, at least not until this past week.
It felt like 187 degrees in my neighborhood, and the idea of living somewhere I’d need to put on mukluks and a parka just to get the mail suddenly seemed very appealing.
I don’t actually know how hot it was, because the weather app on my phone said it was 95, but my car thermometer said it was 108. That seemed to fall into the category of irreconcilable differences, s

Susan Shelley: Trump avoided a major trap and Harris lied to the nation
As a female voter, I was watching the presidential debate for one specific thing.
    It didn’t happen.
I was watching to see if former President Donald Trump would say or do something that would give Vice President Kamala Harris a plausible case of feminist victimhood.
It might have been a zinger remark about a personal relationship in her past. Or a condescending tone that sounded like Trump was “mansplaining” to a woman. Or a facial expression that conveyed contempt, arrogant su

But earlier in the evening there was truly reason for hope. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, making his first big league appearance in almost three months, came out firing and looked like the pitcher whose Nippon Professional Baseball credentials earned him

But it could not have gone much better.

WASHINGTON (AP) — To many Democrats, Kamala Harris was everything Joe Biden was not in confronting Donald Trump on the debate stage: forceful, fleet of foot, relentless in going after her opponent.
In a pivot from Biden’s debate meltdown in June, Democrats who gathered in bars, watch parties and other venues Tuesday night found lots to cheer in her drive to rattle the Republican.

They took an early lead, disregarded the Sun’s length and had their way in the paint. By the end of the night, however, they went listless and never rediscovered their footing.

As I am watching the debate right now, live, I can say that Harris has won without a doubt.
Donald Trump’s rhetoric throughout the entire debate was all about baseless claims about what he will do and the rest of his delusions.
Trump often interrupted just to take a jab at Harris and other governmental figures, and while he did point out some of her wrongdoings, he refuses to take accountability for his own.

I know Fox News thinks the debate was a tie, but I saw it as debate between a scowler and yeller and a clear-eyed, well-prepared, well-spoken leader.
Kamala Harris clearly won the debate with her competence and cool demeanor.

Well…Former President Donald Trump finally got the chance to debate Vice President Kamala Harris.  From my perspective, what I saw was not so much a difference in politics and policies as it was a difference in personal style.  Here’s my take on that particular matter in a nutshell.
