    Wet Labor Day weekend kicks off Southeast rainy season

    Heavy rainfall is coming to Southeast Alaska this weekend, beginning Friday afternoon.
    This kind of precipitation can increase the risk of landslides. In a public service announcement, the City and Borough of Juneau advised residents on and around slopes to be aware of their surroundings as the wet weather moves through.

    Sport anglers with a king salmon permit in Southeast Alaska must wait a month to keep their catch after the state’s Department of Fish and Game closed the fishery on Monday.
    Department commissioner Doug Vincent-Lang said the closure is not cause for concern about the king salmon population, but because he must ensure that the state stays within its catch limits under the Pacific Salmon Treaty.

    Most internet and cell services went down in Stika Thursday morning shortly after 11 a.m.
    Sitkans who reached out to the GCI customer service line  to report the widespread internet and cell service outage got a message that said “GCI is aware of the outage that is affecting internet and TV service within the O’Malley area in Anchorage and Sitka.”
